Welcome to the Political Jersey Shore

What a Grenade.

Yesterday I wrote about Senator Harry Reid and his glorious (inglorious) campaign to libel Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney by alleging that he (Romney) has not paid any taxes over the last ten years, as well as inferring that Romney is using his perfectly legal overseas banking accounts to further evade the tax man.  Here’s the thing though, he has absolutely zero proof, and has himself admitted that he cannot prove his allegations.  Reid claims that an anonymous investor with Bain Capital took it upon himself to call Mr. Reid, and Mr. Reid alone (not the press), to provide the lack tax paying information about Mr. Romney.  Here’s the thing though, how would an investor know Mitt’s tax status?  Do you know your stock broker’s, accountant’s, or doctor’s tax filing status?  Of course you don’t, because as I said yesterday, everyone’s tax filings are extremely personal information and thus not a part of the public record – nor should they be.  The other thing is that should this “anonymous” investor, come informant, have gained access to Mitt’s tax records and is now releasing them to the public via Harry Reid then that is a federal offense and he should be put on trial for his illegal activities.  Not only should this mysterious person be tried for his transgressions, but by the “honorable” Harry Reid keeping this person’s identity secret makes him an accomplice and he too should then be put on trial.  Of course none of that is going to happen, because (1) there is no informant, and (2) do you honestly think that a Senator would actually get arrested, not just for this, but anything?  Um, no, because our elected officials apparently have a different legal standard than the rest of us – which is a nice way of saying that, they are above the law.

Harry Reid isn’t the only one jumping on the tax wagon; President Obama’s senior strategist has joined the fray, asking Mr. Romney what he is hiding, if this “informant’s” information is untrue.  Again, there is no legal reason for any candidate to release their tax filings, so please just let this go; but they won’t.  The reason why is because there is really nothing else that President Obama can run on other than innuendo, misinformation, and flowery rhetoric.  Axelrod and Reid know this, and that is why they wish to make this Presidential campaign not about the real issues, instead they would rather it be about character assassination.

The real issues are, well really there is only one issue, and that is the economy.  Everything else is an offshoot of, or closely linked to the economy; and no sitting President would want to hang their hat, let alone their reelection hopes on the state of our economy.  Unemployment is still too high, which dampens the economy.  There is too much uncertainty as to what both personal and business taxes will be, so people aren’t spending, and businesses aren’t hiring; which dampens the economy.  The Federal Reserve is on the fence on whether or not to devalue our currency more, by turning on the printing presses, which adds to the uncertainty, and that dampens the economy.  You would think that ALL of our elected officials would have a vested interest in clearing some of the fog, which would make things less uncertain, but they don’t really seem to care.

See, Reid, Axelrod, and others of their ilk believe that the vast majority of us American voters are nothing but a bunch of mouth breathing imbeciles, too stupid to see through their ruse.  They believe that if they use a bunch of hokum and smoke and mirrors then they can guarantee a win for Obama in November.  They believe that if they can get enough people to believe this outright lie, then Mr. Romney would fail to win this election.  What they also believe is that if they can turn the heat up enough on Mitt Romney, then he will have no choice but to release all of those tax returns, to prove his innocence.  Once that happens then these jackals will change their attack and start painting Mitt Romney as a snobbish elitist.  They would then hope to prey upon the growing anti-wealthy sentiment amongst us poor, and tired huddled masses – which they aren’t doing anything to make us less tired and less poor.  In short they will feed into and in effect encourage class warfare.

I personally hope Mitt Romney doesn’t cave to the pressure, but he wants to win the White House so bad, that he probably will, and then he will be set up for the next round of attacks on him.  Meanwhile none of us mouth-breathing imbeciles will ever actually hear anything of purpose or meaning when it comes to the real issues that are plaguing our country.  We instead will be treated to the political version of The Jersey Shore, shallow, baseless, and completely useless drivel.  To quote Dennis Miller, “That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.”
